What content do I need to setup a PostBug action?

Required

  1. Title: ideally an active call to action that specifically reflects your campaign. It will also be used when sharing on social media.
  2. Introduction: 1-3 short paragraphs that explain what the issue is, why it is important, what is the deadline and who can do something about it (the recipient). It will also be used when sharing on social media.
  3. Webpage image(s): one or more web-optimised images that represent the postcard(s) or action. These appear at the top of the campaign page and if more than one are options for what postcard image to send. They will also be used when sharing on social media if no open graph social sharing image is provided. See the specific web and print image specifications >>
  4. Print image(s) (postcards only): image(s) that will appear on the printed postcard (and at the top of the campaign page if no webpage image is provided). See the specific web and print image specifications >>
  5. Data protection: At minimum a data protection statement and link to privacy your policy. You can also have optional consent questions.
  6. Verify recipient postal address: PostBug will have and can identify options. But if the recipient(s) have multiple postal addresses, verify which address is best. Check with your policy team or the recipients' staff as they may might suggest something else. PostBug can also advise on what is possible.
  7. Develop a testing checklist to ensure the action works for everyone.
  8. Organisation logo (first setup only): a tightly cropped, transparent background logo for on the action page header.
  9. Moderators: The names and email addresses of the people you want to moderate the messages (unless you choose auto moderation)

Optional

  1. Social media sharing image(s) (Open graph): one or more web-optimised images used as part of the social sharing (open graph) tags. These appear when the action URL is shared on LinkedIn, BlueSky, WhatsApp, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc. These have different dimensions than the postcard. If this isn't included, the postcard image will be used but the top and bottom doesn't display when shared and/or it doesn't load at all. See the specific web and print image specifications >>
  2. Talking points: Instructions for what to include in the message and/or how to write a great impactful message.
  3. Default message to recipients: The default message for people to edit or replace. Giving people suggested text means more people will send it. Yet unique personal messages have a higher impact. The combined editable and uneditable message can be maximum 1,000 characters (a few short paragraphs). Any mix and order of editable and uneditable paragraphs is possible. If you wish to use merge fields this needs to be specified (e.g. constituency name) and it can include custom data if you provide it.
  4. Recipients: if specific images or messages are intended for specific groups of recipients, specify these e.g. parties, government roles, names, etc. and to which images and/or messages they correspond to.
  5. Consent questions: Your standard permission opt-in statement in a yes/no format. Other questions can also be added e.g. are you a member of X
  6. Completion page: This can be the web address of a completion page on your website, a short paragraph for the PostBug-hosted completion page or social media sharing links (also PostBug hosted). The PostBug-hosted completion page is kept simple and includes the postcard image they selected.
  7. Completion email: Provide the HTML of your usual completion email and any links and content you want in it - plus what address replies should go to.
  8. Font: if you wish to use a custom font with your action, you need to supply the font files for this.
